IMPROVING YOUR MEMBER EXPERIENCE WITH MYZONE.

Is it really all about the MEPs?

What on earth is MyZone? MyZone is a fitness tracker and online social platform that rewards effort for all physical activity, helping more people around the world feel good about exercise. There are a couple of models of trackers. 2 models of chest strap trackers and 1 model called a “switch” that can be worn around the chest, wrist or bicep.

HOW IT WORKS

When wearing your tracker, MyZone rewards you with “MyZone Effort Points (MEPs) for different heart rate zones that you achieve when you’re exercising, and they are as follows:

Zone 1 (grey) - 50-59% of your max HR = 1 point per min of exercise

Zone 2 (blue) - 60-69% of your max HR = 2 points per min of exercise

Zone 3 (green) - 70-79% of your max HR = 3 points per min of exercise

Zone 4 (yellow) - 80-89% of your max HR = 4 points per min of exercise

Zone 5 (red) - 90-100% of your max HR = 4 points per min of exercise

As a brand, they give guidance on how many MEPs you should be looking to achieve each week and these often sit in line with the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise.

From a coaches standpoint there are huge benefits to our members wearing these trackers:

MONITOR

  1. We can monitor their session intensity correctly. We can see when we need to push them on and we can also see when we need them to take their foot off the pedal. We want to ensure that they are getting the intended stimulus from the session rather than a max effort every time.

ACHIEVE GOALS

  1. It helps them to adhere to their goals. It feeds back on what they have done and it also gives them the opportunity to compare to others with similar goals to see if they are heading in the right direction.

MEASUREMENT OF FITNESS

  1. The results show improvements in fitness. More MEPs don't mean you're fitter. Often a newer member can achieve more MEPs in a session because they are a little more de-conditioned than a longer standing member. When their heart rate gets up early, sometimes they aren't yet fit enough to recover efficiently. The fitter you are (yes you can still access your max heart rate) the quicker you’ll recover and be ready to go again.

COMPETITION

  1. It can encourage a form of competition for those that enjoy it. The rolling leaderboard each month lets the members see who has achieved the most MEPs so far. For some this is of no interest, for others, it holds them accountable to keep pushing forward.

If you want to know any more about the way Myzone works, you can head to their website or download the app. You can ask the TEAM how you can get hold of a tracker and they’ll be happy to help set you up.
