BCAA’s (Branch Chain Amino Acids)
Are they worth the money and all the hype which surrounds them?
I don’t think so and here is why, if you are having a high protein diet then theres not much point of having them. Yes they make your water, that little bit more tasty but sipping on them during a workout will not be the magic answer to muscle growth.
If you’re not consuming a high protein diet daily and consistently then you’re getting caught up in the minor details before having things that matter in place first.
If this is the case, then you should be supplementing your protein intake with a good quality Whey Protein which everyone should have just for a convenient way to take in protein when short on time.
So what do we suggest …
Concentrate on the things that matter which are calories in and out. These calories should come from good quality single food ingredients (80%) with protein playing a large part of this. Make adjustments to the quantities in line with your goals and progress.
There is small research to say that BCAA’s are beneficial when performing exercise fasted. But no one should be weight training while fasted for sure and cardio you will also perform better with a good pre-workout meal inside you.
And anyway if you’re taking in a BCAA product before fasted cardio then it isn’t fasted anyway.
So BCAA’s save your money!! Go for a whey if you are to supplement to help increase protein intake. If you like flavouring your water then I’m sure you can find a much more cost effective way of doing so.
